You begin the trail at the rim of the parking lot and ascend for a few yards follow the path on the right. Then descend a few steps to enter a forest of giant bamboo trees. Wait for some time on the bridge over the small stream and enjoy the forest of towering bamboo trees. After few minutes of the trail you will come to a spur trail that ends at the Kahuna Falls, falling some 100 feet into Kolekole Stream. From here the trail climbs a small hill and passes through a grove banyan trees and ends at the Akaka Falls overlook.
