Start the trail on a broad muddy road and keep climbing. After a 1-mile elevation you will reach an open plateau from where you can see the Hanalei Bay and the broad Hanalei River passing through green taro fields. You will find a power line tower to your left on the plateau and see the Hanalei town below and the Na Pali coastline to the left. Turn left and the trail leads you straight into the forest rich in different types of native orchids. Keep going for another 1-mile to find you in a lush and shady tropical forest full of tropical pines. The trail turns left and cuts through the forest till it parallels to the Na Pali Coast. At 1.3 miles you will reach the second open plateau and get the best Hanalei views.
