You can start your trail in both the left or right directions. Start your journey from the left and walk up to the first marker where you will find the Pukiawe shrub, which has many medicinal uses. You carry on your hike under the shade of the large Koa trees. As you move on, you will reach the Uki plant.
The trail moves slightly towards the right and you will find a number of local Hawaiian plants like the A'ali'i bush. Continue going on the path and you will cross the Kukui Trail junction and find the Kawelu grass. When you come to the end of the trail you will find yourself at Iliau. Iliau is generally less crowded and you get a fantastic view of the Waimea canyon.
