Start the trail from the trail head parking lot at the Manawaipueo Gulch and instantly start ascending through loose stones. Don't forget to turn around and get a wonderful view of the ocean and some whales blowing water. Keep on climbing through the rough path along the edge of the Kamaohi Gulch and reach the vertical cliffs of Opunaha Gulch at about one mile.
You would come across the remains of ancient walls as you go up the cliffs till you reach the concrete water tanks. Look for the Kealaloloa Ridge and the beautiful Manawainui Gulch ahead. You will reach a grassy edge when you go up the 1600 foot summit. See the Haleakala, Maui's dormant volcano, the Kealia Pond, the Molokini and the Kahoolawe islands from here. Retrace your steps and reach the Papalua Beach Park.
