Lahaina Pali Trail

Hawaii > Maui > Lahaina
Summary
Length5 mi
Elev. Gain1600 ft
Difficulty4 / 5
Rating7 / 10
TypeView
The trail is on an ancient highway which was built some 200 years ago for horses and travelers. It goes up in a zigzag fashion over the Kealaloloa Ridge in the West Maui Mountains. You could see the Kahoolawe and the Lanai islands as well as the Pacific Ocean from here.

Start the trail from the trail head parking lot at the Manawaipueo Gulch and instantly start ascending through loose stones. Don't forget to turn around and get a wonderful view of the ocean and some whales blowing water. Keep on climbing through the rough path along the edge of the Kamaohi Gulch and reach the vertical cliffs of Opunaha Gulch at about one mile.

You would come across the remains of ancient walls as you go up the cliffs till you reach the concrete water tanks. Look for the Kealaloloa Ridge and the beautiful Manawainui Gulch ahead. You will reach a grassy edge when you go up the 1600 foot summit. See the Haleakala, Maui's dormant volcano, the Kealia Pond, the Molokini and the Kahoolawe islands from here. Retrace your steps and reach the Papalua Beach Park.
