When you reach half the way down the trail, you will hit first of the three switchbacks. Pololu is a part of a series of seven valleys located towards the North. The trail reaches the valley floor just behind the shoreline. From this stream, the trail will follow the black sand beach and will enter into an ironwood forest. You can leave the trail at this point and walk along the beach.
After enjoying a lonely walk on the beach, you can pick up the trail again at the far end of the beach. Beyond the valley, the land is private, so you should continue through the ironwood tress and dunes. If you are feeling adventurous, you can walk through the dunes and even remnants of World War II, if you are lucky!
