Wiliwilinui Trail

Hawaii > Oahu > Waikiki
Length4.6 mi
Elev. Gain1200 ft
Difficulty3 / 5
Rating8 / 10
The Wiliwilinui Trail is quite empty and intensely charming. From here, you can explore the Koolau Mountain Range, which overlooks the Kapakahi Gulch. You will not only catch a spectacular glimpse of the Diamond Head and the Koko Crater, but also the amazing white sand beaches of the Waimanalo Bay from this trail.

Begin your hike by driving all the way up to the trail head, or you can take the longer, but more adventurous route and walk up an additional 1,200 feet on Laukahi Street. You will be able to get a glimpse of the million dollar mansions on the way. Turn right while you hike and a brown-yellow sign will tell you that the Wiliwilinui Trail is right ahead.

Wiliwili is a tree that has a reddish bark and yellow-orange or red blossoms. You will see lots of (nui) these trees on your way. On the trail you will also come across a canopy of tress, after which you can look at the Crater. Walk a bit to find a bench, where you can take a little rest before continuing the steep journey to the top. The trail continues behind the radio tower station. At the end of the trail there is a cool place to have a meal and then you can begin your journey back to the trailhead.
