Moanalua Valley Trail [1 hike report]

Hawaii > Oahu > Central
Summary
Length3.6 mi
Elev. Gain350 ft
Difficulty2 / 5
Rating9 / 10
TypeView
The Moanalua Valley Trail has an interesting history. It was a land that originally belonged to Kamehameha the Great. The land passed through a succession of owners, finally coming to Samuel Damon and his family.

Along the trail you would come across the remains of Damon's house after crossing seven bridges. At the seventh and last bridge, you will find a stone that is engraved with Hawaiian petroglyphs. After the marker number 12, the trail will rise steeply towards the nearest ridge. After a series of twists and turns, the trail will lead you to the prime lookout spot, from where you can see almost the entire valley.

While attempting the steep decent, make sure that you are adequately rested and hydrated.

Moanalua Valley Trail - by SfelicianoWednesday, June 19, 2013
Sunny with few showers in the evening around 5pm. Cool and breezy. Easy trail, flat with slight incline. Paved trail . Wide for trucks to drive through. Few marked hunting trails toward the ridge on the right when going up this trail past the petroglyphs. At the fork of the trail we took the right fork, went another 30 minutes and had to head back. Went in an hour and 45 minutes including taking photos and looking around at the history. Took 1 hour to get back. Did not get to the rodent .....
